Behaviors especially notable for children with CAPD include:
- Problems following directions
- Easily distracted
- Easily flustered or confused
- Appears confused in noisy places
- Has short attention span
- Is sensitive to loud noises
- Problems completing assignments
- Being easily upset in new situations
- Is an underachiever
- Exhibits anxiety or tension
- Lacks self-confidence
- Is easily frustrated
- Forgetful
- Daydreams
- Restless, has problems sitting still
Children with CAPD may also demonstrate delayed responses to verbal stimuli in an effort to “buy time” to process incomplete information. Much of the auditory input they receive may be degraded enough that they need more time to integrate incomplete information into a meaningful message.
